As someone whose high school fed students to Harding, it is a pretty terrible place for LGBT students. It?s a pretty terrible place for anyone, really. It?s a really conservative Church of Christ college. Probably one of the more conservative ones in the US (over Pepperdine and Lipscomb specifically). I remember some of my friends that go there being really amused because they edited ?inappropriate material? out of Finding Nemo and Shrek for student viewing. And they censor a LOT of websites on campus. Their campus radio also plays mostly 50s music.
As much as I hate that this happened with these students, because I?m really really pro-gay-rights and pro-free-speech, it doesn?t surprise me at all that Harding did that. If you want to be an accepted gay college student in Arkansas, the public universities or Hendrix College (where I went) are the places to be. Harding? not so much.
