Supernatural?s latest episode entitled ?Mommy Dearest? aired tonight. Get the recap here and tell us ? what?s up with Castiel?! Was that a shocker or what? Details below the fold.
It?s hard to believe that Cas would be the next in line to go dark side, but it?s true. Sam, Dean and Bobby have all been touched by evil at one time or another, I just didn?t think Castiel would be on the same wavelength as Crowley, who we thought was dead after Cas supposedly salted and burned his bones.
One things for sure, the war in Heaven has to be pretty bad if he?s teaming up with the guy who sold his soul for three more inches in his former life. Leaving clues here and there throughout the episode, it wasn?t until the very end that we really get confirmation of Cas? hidden agenda. After making comments about a Wayward child, Eve?s rant about collections of souls, as well as Cas? comments about the greater purpose, and Dean dead set against working with demons and monsters, you only hope that the arrows pointing to Cas where smoke and mirrors. But that?s not so.
When Mommy Dearest first kicked off Cas was willing to help find Eve, using Lenore the vampire. After she finally spills the where abouts of Eve to the group. Cas puts her out of her misery before they take off to Grants Pass, Oregon. A place filled with hybrids Dean hilariously coins ?Jefferson Starships!? The baby in a trench coat dig was also pretty humorous.
After working their way through the town, an investigating the local happenings, they end up hostage in a diner where Eve has transformed her appearance into that of their mother. Sick and cruel, she grabs their attention in hopes of bartering a deal. She wants Crowley and of they get him, Sam and Dean get to live. Lucky for Dean, who has been experimenting with the phoenix ashes, he goes toe to toe with the evil witch, putting an end to her.
I didn?t see this storyline as a subplot, but it looks to be opening doors to the bigger picture ? the war in Heaven. It looks like this may be the cliffhanger show runner Sera Gambel was referring to at Paley Fest. Could Cas be going down? Will Sam and Dean have to decide between Cas and the greater good? Tell us what you think? And stay tune, there?s only three more episodes left before the season ends. Luckily season seven has been confirmed!
