We say goodbye to Jacob Lusk tonight, as he was the latest contestant on American Idol to get voted off the show. It really wasn?t a surprise since many, myself included, have felt that in recent weeks he just has not impressed as much as he did at the beginning of the season. No doubt he will probably secure some sort of gospel/R&B recording contract though, so no worries all you Jacob fans!
In addition to finding out just who would be sent home, we saw AI judge Jennifer Lopez perform her hit ?On The Floor?, (which Mamacita rocked of course) and heard Lady Antebellum?s latest single, ?Just a Kiss? ? another sweet ballad.
So here?s how it went down?We first saw James Durbin asked by Ryan to stand at the far right side of the stage. He had great performances last night with his take on ?Closer to the Edge? by 30 Seconds to Mars and the very emotional ?Without You?, tears and all. Lauren Alaina was next, who also had solid performances with Carrie Underwood?s ?Flat on the Floor? and ?Unchained Melody?. She was sent to the opposite end of the stage, which left me a bit confused on who the heck was safe or not.
Jacob?s horrid performance last night of ?No Air? followed by his terribly pitchy ?Love Hurts? sealed his fate in my opinion, and he was asked to stand next to Lauren. Hmmmm. Haley Reinhart was just okay with her attempt at Lady Gaga?s unreleased ?You and I? but clearly knocked it out of the park and redeemed herself with her rendition of ?House of the Rising Sun?. Her effort gave her a standing O from the judges and was very well deserved. Where was Haley asked to stand? Next to James.
All that was left was country boy Scotty McCreery, who seriously wowed everyone last night with his high energy performance of Montgomery-Gentry ?s ?Gone? and revealed his oh so sweet sensitive side with ?Always on My Mind? by Elvis Presley. Ryan gives Scotty the great news that he is safe but asks him?.wait for it?to stand by the group he also thinks is safe, to which he shook his head repeatedly and said ?I can?t do that?. Instead, Ryan walked him toward James and Haley, declaring all three safe.
So it?s Jacob and Lauren in the bottom two, with Lauren visibly upset that she?s found herself in that position. She looked as if she was gonna puke right there on stage. Ryan didn?t prolong the results and revealed that it was Jacob who was going home, leaving Lauren to completely break down in relief. Jacob, on the other hand, seemed unfazed when he found out his fate, hinting that he might have already come to terms with the fact that tonight might be the end of the road for him. He told the audience:
??I got to share the love with America and I think America fell in love with me. And now I can go home and put out that good-feeling R&B music that worships Luther (Vandross) or reminds you of those old singers.?
As his farewell performance, he sang Luther Vandross? ?A House is Not A Home? in typical dramatic Jacob fashion. We wouldn?t have expected anything less. You can see all of Jacob Lusk?s American Idol performances in the videos I have provided below.
And then there were four?.
