Doctor Who, Season 6, Episode 2 Recap

The Season 6, Episode 2 of Doctor Who was entitled ?Day of the Moon?. As we last left the Doctor in the previous recap, he and companions Amy, Rory and River Song journeyed back to 1969 after an Apollo astronaut killed an older version of the Doctor. Of course, the current Time Lord is unaware of this event. The TARDIS lands inside the Oval Office where President Richard Nixon is briefing a former FBI agent, Canton Delaware III about strange phone calls he gets every night from a little girl, claiming to be attacked by a spaceman. After a brush with the Secret Service, the Doctor, companions and Canton take the TARDIS to a deserted warehouse near Cape Canaveral to find the girl. River and Rory discover tunnels that run across the entire planet and some alien technology. Amy tells the Doctor she?s pregnant, then shoots somebody in an Apollo spacesuit, who turns out to be the little girl. Confused? Well, even the Doctor is taken a back as the aliens they are threatened by have the power to psychically mask themselves. You only see them when you look directly at them. Once you turn away, you forget you saw them.

Episode 2 begins with the Doctor being held at Area 51 wrapped in a straight-jacket while he is entombed in a cell made of a special material that blocks sound and radio emissions. Meanwhile, Canton tracks down the other companions, seeming to shoot them, except for River. She dives off a 50-story building in New York! Canton visits the Doctor in his new cell and is sealed in along with the Amy and Rory in body-bags. Naturally, they are not dead. The whole scheme was done so the companions could roam about for three months, searching for the aliens, marking their bodies whenever they saw them. They board the TARDIS, which was invisible inside the cell, and head to save River before she hits the ground.

The Doctor injects a nano-recorder in everyone?s palm so they can record their alien sightings. Canton and Amy begin searching children?s homes and orphanages near Cape Canaveral to find the little girl. They wind up at a place that was supposed to had been closed in 1967. On the walls, the children painted warnings, ?GET OUT!? and ?LEAVE NOW!?. While Canton talks to the creepy director, Amy finds the girl?s room, which has a picture of Amy with a baby girl. She is then captured by the aliens, but Canton manages to shoot one.

The Doctor and the others arrive and take the alien back to Area 51 inside the cell. They learn that the aliens are a race of beings known as The Silents, which causes the Doctor to recall hearing the term used last season. They?ve been on Earth for thousands of years, manipulating human history. While the Doctor, Rory and River go to rescue Amy, Canton uses a video-cell-phone to record the wounded alien telling him, ?You should kill us all on sight.?

The TARDIS arrives back at the orphanage where the aliens are holding Amy. The Doctor treats them with a small black-and-white television to watch Neil Armstrong step out on the Moon. Dr. Who gives them one chance to surrender, which they refuse to do. He signals Canton and as a half-billion people watch Armstrong say ?That?s one small step for man??, Canton cuts in the transmission and plays the recording of the alien. Now humanity is alerted to their presence and several aliens are seen and shot immediately. River guns down those at the hideout as Rory frees Amy.

The gang, including Canton, return to the Oval Office, where the Doctor advises Nixon to record everything all the time! There you go! Dr. Who is responsible for the Watergate tapes! After the TARDIS drops off River, the Doctor scans Amy, but the results are inconclusive whether she is pregnant or not. The final scene is of the little girl who meets a tramp in an alley. She suddenly begins to transform, a la Time Lord style! Does the Doctor have a daughter? Is Amy her mother? Oh-Oh! Next week on Doctor Who, the gang find themselves on board an old-fashioned pirate ship facing some sort of female siren-ghost.
